District News Release for Upcoming IB Events:
The Roseville Joint Union High School District is holding a general
information meeting for all parents and students interested in
the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme on Nov.
14, 2007 at 7pm in the Oakmont HS Theatre. The exciting oppo rtunities
and challenges of this world class program will be outlined. Granite
Bay High School and Oakmont High School are the first schools in
Placer County to attempt to offer the prestigious and challenging
International Baccalaureate curriculum.
Both Granite Bay and Oakmont high schools are currently planning
to begin their 11 th grade IB courses in Fall 2008. The Nov. 14
general meeting will be followed by meetings at both schools (GBHS
and OHS) on Nov. 28 at 7pm to discuss IB information more specific
to each site.
Recognized and admired by colleges and universities across the
world, the International Baccalaureate program is committed to
developing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring learners who possess
a global perspective. It is arguably the most rigorous high school
curriculum offered anywhere! What makes the IB curriculum unique
is that it offers a continuum of intense, high-quality education
over grades 11 and 12 and encourages a positive attitude to learning
by requiring students to ask challenging questions, to critically
reflect, to develop research skills, to learn how to learn and
to participate in community service.
Worldwide the IB works with 2,122 schools in 125 countries to
offer IB programs to approximately 566,000 students. Over the past
ten years, the number of high school diploma students has grown
about 10% each year, resulting in remarkable levels of sustained
growth. The highest performing school districts in the nation have
committed to offering their students opportunities for high level
learning with both the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate
programs. Granite Bay High School and Oakmont High School are the
first schools in Placer County to attempt to offer the prestigious
and challenging International Baccalaureate curriculum.
The final deadline for all applications (both within and outside
the attendance areas of GBHS and OHS) is February 1, 2008. Official
IB information may be found at www.ibo.org.
